Cloudflare DNS history

See a domain's previous Cloudflare DNS values.

Cloudflare audit logs show changes inside an account when you have access. DNSTimeMachine answers a narrower outside-view question: which public DNS answers were observed over time, including periods before the current account owner took control.

Enter the Cloudflare-hosted domain whose earlier public DNS value you need.

Publicly observed DNS history, not a complete zone backup.

For Cloudflare administrators and agencies comparing account audit logs with independently observed public DNS history.

How the history reads

The record, before and after.

Each captured answer is stored with its observation date, so you can compare the earlier value with the change that replaced it.

01

The audit log shows your account. This shows the DNS

Cloudflare's audit log is the record of edits made inside the dashboard. It needs account access and it does not go back before you owned the domain. An external DNS archive answers a different question: what did the public DNS resolve to, and when.

02

Know what the public DNS exposed

A proxied record normally exposes Cloudflare edge addresses, not the origin. Historical DNS may show an origin only if it was publicly observable during an earlier unproxied window.

03

When there is no undo in the dashboard

If a publicly observed value was captured before it was overwritten, the history can provide a recovery candidate. Verify it against current infrastructure before changing the zone.

When you reach for this.

  • You lost access to the Cloudflare account or audit log
  • A record was overwritten and there is no undo
  • The value you need predates your ownership
  • You need the unproxied origin a record used to expose

"What did this used to be?"

The question a live lookup cannot answer. Enter the domain above and we will send its history the moment access opens.

Direct answers

Questions about cloudflare dns history.

Where should I check Cloudflare DNS change history first?

If you control the account, check Cloudflare audit logs first because they record account actions. External DNS history is useful when access is unavailable or you need independently observed public answers.

Can DNS history reveal a proxied Cloudflare origin?

Not while the origin is hidden by the proxy. It may show an origin from an earlier period only if that address was publicly observable, such as during an unproxied window.

Can I restore a previous Cloudflare DNS record from history?

A captured historical value can be a recovery candidate, but it should be verified against the current origin, provider, and security configuration before restoration.
